CASH-strapped blokes can buy their other halves a Valentine’s Day present that makes ‘scents’ this year – a 99p bottle of perfume.
In what’s sure to top a bunch of flowers from the petrol station as the most cost-effective (or even stingy ) gift this year, men who prefer not to splash out on grand romantic gestures can sniff out the bargain prezzie at 99p stores from tomorrow.
The value retailer has just rolled out a full range of 99p perfume in time for the most romantic day of the year.
Clueless chaps who don’t know their partner’s favourite flowers, chocolates or dress size can relax and simply chose from a wide range of scents and smells.
Afterall, they say it’s the thought that counts.
With 20 different bottles to choose from, bosses at the store insist it is the perfect present for those feeling the pinch but wanting to impress their loved one.
Hussein Lalani, boss of 99p Stores, says: “Where else can you celebrate Valentines with Paris for 99p?
“We conducted research and our family customers gave us an ambitious wish list of products including perfume and after-shave.
“After intensive searching for a supplier, we are now delighted to launch this range of perfume in time for Valentines Day. We also have after-shave too.
“We have tested these extensively with our own staff at headquarters, both male and female, and they have all passed the test with flying colours.”
Gushy Brummie Guy Chapman, 28, who has been with his girlfriend eight months, said: “It’s our first Valentine’s Day together and as much as I’d love to splash out on a luxurious gift for my girlfriend, I just can’t afford to.
“A decent bottle of perfume would usually set you back GBP40 but this stuff actually smells nice so I’m going to get it – she won’t know it only cost 99p.”
The range includes Flowers of Love, Heaven Scent, Hidden Passion, Princess Victoria and Romance de Paris and will hit the shelves on February 2.
And it’s not just the guys who will find a bargain gift at the shop – as 99p aftershave is also available for the ladies to buy for their men.
99p Stores started as a one-man ban a little over a decade ago and has grown to become a national brand.
“Britons’ thirst for value is unquenchable. The value genie is now well and truly out of the bottle across the High Street and there is no putting it back in,” he added.
“When times get better demanding value will have become an integral part of the daily shopping habit. That will be one of the better things, if not the only thing, to have come out of this recession.”
